A D-Xirable Poem and Journey: "The Road Not Taken"

One of my favorite poems is "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost. I read this poem in high school and I instantly fell in love with it. I think I fell in love with it because I secretly knew that I didn't want to be a follower. Instead, I wanted to be a leader and I wanted to march to the beat of my own drum. So far, in a way, I did take "The Road Not Taken". I was the first in my family (on my mom's side) to go to college. Not only that, I ended up finishing as well. I've made other decisions based off of this poem as well and probably will continue to do so. So, here's one of my favorite poems:

A picture of a fork in the road

"The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I marked the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

But, I guess I've come to this poem now because I've come to a new fork in the road: I can either go to Graduate school and continue to go further in school debt, or I can go into the "real world" and pay off my current school debt. I'm used to being a student - sitting in class, taking tests, cramming for finals, and hanging with friends. In a way, it's the road well traveled for me, very familiar. But I don't think that I want to stay on the road well traveled. I've decided, and although it seems scary, it may be time for me to go into the "real world". It's time to start something new. Sure it will be scary, but I'm pretty sure that it will be worth it! It's not always easy but sometimes it's better to take "The Road Not Taken". It has worked for me so far!

Love always,
LaTasha B.

  1. I think it doesn't matter which road you take because one will bring you experience that other cannot and the other way around. So, I would say there's always something great waiting on each path, you just have to find it :)
Lovely poem, it sure makes your mind wonder... =)

    1. ML/Marinnelle - Interesting perspective! Very optimistic! Thanks so much for your comment! I like your comment about the roads and the poem. I guess I would say, whichever road you choose, make sure that it's the road that you want to take. Only you have the choice to choose which way to go. :) Thanks again!
      Sincerely,
