D-Xirable War and Peace Quotes!

Hello my loves,

I'm sorry about the delay in this post.

There are OVER 1,000 quotes on War and Peace! In order to pick which ones that I thought were the best, I had to read all of those that I could find. So, that's why this post took SO long to do! Also, I've been really busy doing other things.

With that said, I am ALWAYS for PEACE but I decided to add the few pro - war quotes that I found just because. So, here's the post. Yes, it's long. But like I said, there are TONS of quotes on this subject!

  8. Hey, so sorry for taking so long to reply i was and i am still terribly sick, however i was waiting for this post and i couldn't not comment.
you put so much time to this and you searched so many quotes (1.000 seriously??? what did i made you to do?) and i am sorry for the short comment...blame my health issues...

I guess every generation is doomed to fight its war...suffer the loss of the same old illusions, and learn the same old lessons on its own. ~Phillip Caputo

Man is the only animal that is cruel. It kills just for the sake of it. ~Mark Twain

All nations want peace, but they want a peace that suits them. ~Admiral Sir John Fisher

I've read all quotes but these 3 have striked me, i already knew Mark Twain's quote, but the two other quotes are absolutely brilliant, and possibly the most realistic and true quotes i've ever heard.
I believe that for peace to be established and wars to stop happening, people must change and we don't change, we make the same mistakes again and again and we never learn, so if we never learn how can we change?
one poem/quote you didn't mention cause frankly you couldn't know it comes from a greek poem i've studied a few years ago, since i am greek i know it and i'll try my best to translate it to you. its called "helen" of George Seferis, its really difficult to understand if you are not aware of the troyan war and greek history but i'll try to explain it to you.
Basically the poem says that Helen never left Greece and that the war was meaningless since the true princess wasn't stolen, the Gods had lied and sent a fake Helen in Troy..

"And Paris embraced a shadow as if it had been flesh and blood,
while for ten long years we butchered one another over Helen.
    Greece haemorrhaged.
    So many bodies thrown
to the jaws of the sea, to the jaws of the earth so many souls
flung between the millstones like grains of wheat.
And blood bubbling up through river mud,
for a flaxen wave for a passing cloud
    a butterfly's wingbeat a swandown's drift
all for an empty tunic, a Helen.
is it true that men will never again
fall into the gods' ancient snare?
    is it is true
that in ages to come another Teucer,
or someone perhaps nameless, unknown, who yet
has seen Scamander heave with corpses,
    will be spared the words
    of messengers coming to say
that so much suffering so many lives
    went spinning into the abyss
all for an empty tunic, for a Helen.

I found the translation online, but i tried to summ-it up for you, because the entire poem is hard to get. basically this is a story of a soldier of the troyan war who comes back to greece, his country, after seeing all his friends die one after another, to discover that Helen never went with Paris, and that the war was meaningless, since they went there to take her back, but she was never there.
so he starts wondering was it worth it? a war where everyone died for nothing? for something as meaningless as a butterfly's wingbeat, as a fake Helen?
George Seferis, the author, tries to explain to us that all wars all useless, meaningless and happen for no reason, but at the end they all have the same impact upon us.
hope that you get what the text means and that i don't bore you to death. i just thought that you would be interested to learn something new, something you wouldn't learn elsewhise.

I'm glad that you found 3 quotes that you liked, it means a lot! I didn't know that, thanks for sharing! I'm well aware of the Trojan War but I wasn't aware of the poem, so thank you for sharing that! Thanks for the summary as well, that helps a lot! :) You are so right, we must change in order for things to change. If we don't learn from our mistakes, we will always repeat them. So true love! :)
