D-Xirable Movie Time! Girls Trip!

Hello, my wonderful and amazing loves!

After work today, my Godmother, Ms. Angie, and my twiny/big sis, Ja, picked me up and we went to see the movie, Girls Trip, at the Cinemark Palace in the Plaza! We met up with Aunt Pam for the movie. This movie was so good! It was so funny and hilarious! We were laughing the entire time! Such an awesome cast! Jada Pinkett Smith, Queen Latifah, Regina Hall, Tiffany Haddish, Larenz Tate, Mike Colter, Kate Walsh, and Kofi Siriboe! And the setting was awesome too! It was set in New Orleans during the Essence Festival, and it looked like so much fun! It was a great movie about friendship and being real and true to who you are. We ALL enjoyed the movie! By the way, Larenz Tate is so handsome and gorgeous! And he doesn't age!

“I am beautiful. I am strong,” says Ryan Pierce (Regina Hall)

Girls Trip teaser poster

Movie Synopsis: Ryan (Regina Hall) has it all, or at least that’s what the title of her bestselling book claims, but her finely crafted life with her husband, Stewart (Luke Cage’s Mike Colter), is missing something: the Flossy Posse, the lifelong friends she’s gradually drifted away from. When a work opportunity takes her to New Orleans for the weekend, she decides to reconnect, inviting them all with her to make the most of the VIP treatment. There’s Sasha (Queen Latifah), a celebrity gossip blogger hiding her failing site behind steely bravado; Lisa (Jada Pinkett Smith), whose life as a single mother has left her love life lacking; and the bolshy, recently fired Dina (Tiffany Haddish), who remains unaware of the problems she causes around her.

This movie was amazing! It was outrageously hilarious and funny! This movie is definitely one to see! We all loved it! We laughed the entire time! I just LOVE their friendship! It was beautiful! Plus, this movie was black girl magic! Awesome movie, amazing cast, a wonderful time! My favorite character was Dina! She was off the chain!

Hope you enjoyed the pics and post!

D-Xirable Movie Time! Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and Everything, Everything

Hello, my wonderful and amazing loves!

Today, I went to the Cinemark Palace in the Plaza to see a double feature (two movies). First, I went to see the new Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Then, my mom came and we saw Everything, Everything. Both movies were just okay. Honestly, I could have waited to see both of them.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

Synopsis: Captain Jack Sparrow (played by handsome and talented, Johnny Depp) is pursued by an old nemesis, Captain Armando Salazar (played by talented, Javier Bardem), who along with his Spanish Navy ghost crew has escaped from the Devil’s Triangle and is determined to kill every pirate at sea. Jack, aided by his new allies Henry Turner (played by cutie, Brenton Thwaites) and Carina Smyth (played by Kaya Scodelario), must seek the Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that grants its possessor total control over the seas, in order to defeat Salazar and break all sea curses. Henry Turner is Will Turner Jr.'s (played by gorgeous and talented, Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swan's (played by the gorgeous and talented, Keira Knightley) son and Carina Smyth is Captain Barbossa's daughter.

Gorgeous and talented, Orlando Bloom as Will Turner, Jr.!

To me, the synopsis just doesn't fit right. Although the film is about Captain Jack Sparrow, and Captain Armando Salazar is trying to get revenge on him, I felt like this movie was more geared toward Henry Turner and Carina Smyth. Henry Turner is Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann's son who's trying to break his father's curse, while Carina Smyth is Captain Barbossa's daughter trying to find the Trident of Poseidon in her father's honor. Although, Javier Bardem made an incredible villain and it was nice to see Geoffrey Rush as Captain Barbossa, and Paul McCartney made a nice cameo, this wasn't my favorite film of the franchise. But you could say I'm biased because I mainly watch Pirates of the Caribbean for Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, and Keira Knightley, and Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom were barely in this movie.

Young Jack Sparrow!

Handsome and talented, Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow!

Favorite Quotes:

"I will not pay for that." - Henry Turner. Never say that to a woman."- Captain Jack Sparrow
"How dare you do exactly what I would do if I were you." - Captain Jack Sparrow

Everything, Everything

Maddy (played by extremely beautiful and talented, Amandla Stenberg)
Synopsis: What if you couldn't touch anything in the outside world? Never breathe in the fresh air, feel the sun warm your face… or kiss the boy next door? Everything, Everything tells the unlikely love story of Maddy (played by extremely beautiful and talented, Amandla Stenberg), a smart, curious and imaginative 18-year-old who due to an illness cannot leave the protection of the hermetically sealed environment within her house, and Olly (played by cute, Nick Robinson), the boy next door who won’t let that stop them. Maddy is desperate to experience the much more stimulating outside world, and the promise of her first romance. Gazing through windows and talking only through texts, she and Olly form a deep bond that leads them to risk everything to be together… even if it means losing everything.

Maddy and Olly!

Olly and Maddy!

I wanted to love this movie. I love a good romance film. In fact, I'm a sucker for a good romance! However, this movie wasn't it. My mom didn't care for it either. It was very awkward and slow at first. I know it's supposed to be that way, we're talking about a young girl who has had very little human conversation but it was just too awkward for me. It didn't help that there were two other young girls in the theater laughing at the awkward moments as well. However, I did enjoy the beach scenes in Hawaii. Those moments were really cute.

Fave Quotes:
"Love can't kill me, mom." - Maddy
"Call him. Don't be a coward."
"Every ocean deserves to be seen by you." - Olly
"Aloha. Don't die."
"Dear mom, I know staying in this house keeps me alive, but this isn’t living. I want to experience everything. Everything. This is all I want." - Maddy

D-Xirable Movie Time! Beauty and the Beast!

Hello, my wonderful and amazing loves!

Today, I got to hang out with my twiny/bestie, Ja, and my Godmother, Ms. Angie. We went to AMC Ward Parkway 14 and saw the movie, Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, and Luke Evans. Also starring Josh Gad, Ian McKellen, Emma Thompson, Ewan McGregor, Kevin Kline, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Stanley Tucci, and Audra McDonald.

Movie Synopsis:
Disney's Beauty and the Beast is a live-action re-telling of the studio's animated classic which refashions the classic characters from the tale as old as time for a contemporary audience, staying true to the original music while updating the score with several new songs. Beauty and the Beast is the fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle's enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast's hideous exterior and realize the kind heart and soul of the true Prince within. The film stars: Emma Watson as Belle; Dan Stevens as the Beast; Luke Evans as Gaston, the handsome, but shallow villager who woos Belle; Oscar (R) winner Kevin Kline as Maurice, Belle's eccentric, but lovable father; Josh Gad as Lefou, Gaston's long-suffering aide-de-camp; Golden Globe (R) nominee Ewan McGregor as Lumiere, the candelabra; Oscar nominee Stanley Tucci as Maestro Cadenza, the harpsichord; Oscar nominee Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, the mantel clock; and two-time Academy Award (R) winner Emma Thompson as the teapot, Mrs. Potts. Directed by Oscar (R) winner Bill Condon based on the 1991 animated film, Beauty and the Beast.

The Whole Cast of Beauty and the Beast
Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens as the Beast, and Luke Evans as Gaston.

The movie was wonderful to watch and see. We all enjoyed it. My bestie and I even sung along. Lol! The cast did a lovely job singing the songs and bringing these characters to life. Emma Watson was the perfect Belle and Dan Stevens made a great Beast, and they had some great moments together. We loved Celine Dion's new Beauty and the Beast ballad, "How Does A Moment Last Forever". It's so beautiful! If you are a fan of the original movie, then I would suggest you see this version as well.

Hope you enjoyed the pics and post!

Today, I got to hang out with my twiny/bestie, Ja, and my Godmother, Ms. Angie. We went to AMC Barry Woods and saw the movie, Hidden Figures starring Octavia Spencer, Taraji P. Henson, and Janelle Monáe. It also stars Kirsten Dunst, Jim Parsons, Mahershala Ali, Aldis Hodge,
Glen Powell (who's gorgeous by the way), Kimberly Quinn and Kevin Costner.

Hidden Figures promo

Movie Synopsis:

Hidden Figures is the incredible untold story of Katherine G. Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe)-brilliant African-American women working at NASA, who served as the brains and "human computers" behind one of the greatest operations in U.S. history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit, a stunning achievement that restored the nation's confidence, turned around the Space Race, and galvanized the world. The visionary trio crossed all gender and race lines to inspire generations to dream big.

This movie is so inspiring, amazing, and powerful! I'm so inspired by these incredible, strong, and smart black women and their stories! They used their intelligence to help make history, how amazing is that! Watch this movie as three beautiful African American women rise to the top! I don't know who inspires me most because they were all brilliant and so determined. All of these women broke barriers which demands respect.

This is a must-see movie! I would definitely see it again. It really does inspire you to dream big!

I hope you enjoyed the post and the pics!

D-Xirable Movie Time! Sing!

Hello, my wonderful and amazing loves!

Happy New Years!

Today, I got to hang out with my twiny/bestie, Ja, and my Godmother, Ms. Angie. We went to Cinemark Palace in the Plaza and saw the movie, Sing.

Sing promo

Movie Synopsis:

Set in a world like ours but entirely inhabited by animals, Sing stars Buster Moon (Matthew McConaughey), a dapper Koala who presides over a once-grand theater that has fallen on hard times. Buster is an eternal optimist — okay, maybe a bit of a scoundrel — who loves his theater above all and will do anything to preserve it. Now facing the crumbling of his life’s ambition, he has one final chance to restore his fading jewel to its former glory by producing the world’s greatest singing competition. Five lead contestants emerge: A mouse (Seth MacFarlane) who croons as smoothly as he cons, a timid teenage elephant (Tori Kelly) with an enormous case of stage fright, an overtaxed mother (Reese Witherspoon) run ragged tending a litter of 25 piglets, a young gangster gorilla (Taron Egerton) looking to break free of his family’s felonies, and a punk-rock porcupine (Scarlett Johansson) struggling to shed her arrogant boyfriend and go solo. Each animal arrives under Buster’s marquee believing that this is their shot to change the course of their life.

The Ending/Performances:

When Meena goes to the theater's rubble lot and sings Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah", Buster hears her and is inspired to reinstate the show without the prize money. They perform in front of Rosita and Meena's family members. As Rosita and Gunther perform "Shake It Off", more animals are attracted to the scene as the show is broadcast on the news. Johnny amazes his father with Elton John's "I'm Still Standing" who then escapes from prison to reconcile with him. Ash impresses Lance with her original rock song, "Set It All Free". Mike, who bailed out when he heard there was no prize money, returns when his peers make fun that he wasn't able to sing like the ones on TV, singing Frank Sinatra's "My Way". Meena finally overcomes her fears and sings Stevie Wonder's "Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing". The show becomes a success and impresses Nana so much she agrees to buy the lot and rebuilds the theater.

This movie was cute enough to watch. I really wish there was more of Taron Egerton singing "Stay With Me". His vocals were really nice for this song. Rosita and Gunter's "Shake It Off" performance was cute and creative. Tori Kelly's vocals really steal the show. First, for "Hallelujah" and again for "Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing". Overall, this movie was just okay.

Hope you enjoyed the pics and post!

D-Xirable Movie Time! Disney's Moana!

Hello, my wonderful and amazing loves!

Today, I went to see Disney's Moana at Cinemark Palace in the Plaza. It was such a cute movie! I adored it!

Disney "Moana"

Disney "Moana"

Movie Synopsis:

Moana, voiced by newcomer Auli’i Cravalho, is the sole daughter of the chief of Motunui Island, a position she herself is destined one day to overtake. Problem is, Moana feels a deep, instinctual urge to set out into the unknown waters beyond the reefs that surround her island, much to the consternation of her father, Chief Tui. As fate would have it, the ocean chooses Moana to embark on a mission to find the once-adored, now-disgraced demigod, Maui (Dwayne Johnson), in order to restore the stolen Heart of Te Fiti, a gemstone with the power to create new life, to its original resting place and thus save her home from destruction. Before Maui can help our feisty hero, however, he must first find his lost magical fish hook, an object bestowed onto him by the gods which grants the ability to shape-shift into any animal. Together the two face coconut pirates, a narcissistic monster crab and each other as they set out across the ocean to meet their destinies.

A young and cute, Moana!

A young and cute, Moana!

I enjoyed watching this movie. Unlike other Disney movies, the parents didn't die in this film. However, Moana's grandma does. Her grandma was my favorite character in this film. She was considered the crazy lady of the island but she was really wise.

Tala was spirited, eccentric, and independent. She was fiercely devoted to the idea of being true to yourself and "listening to your heart." As such, she would never adhere to normality for the sake of fitting in, making her somewhat of an outcast, though she holds the reputation of "village crazy lady" with prideful awareness.

“Why are you acting weird.” –Moana
“I am the village crazy lady that is my job. –Gramma Tala

"It's called way finding, princess. It's not just sails and knots. It's seeing where you're going in your mind, knowing where you are by knowing where you've been." –Maui

Here are some more of my favorite quotes from the movie:

"You will do great things, but first you must learn where you are meant to be." –Chief Tui

Chief Tui and Sina

"Sometimes our strengths lie beneath the surface. Far beneath." –Moana

"The ocean chose you for a reason." –Moana to herself

Moana and the ocean

"You did everything for them so they’d love you." –Moana
"It was never enough." –Maui

Moana and the demigod, Maui

"The gods aren't the ones who make you Maui, you are." –Moana

"Scars can heal and reveal just where you are." –Gramma

"They have stolen the heart from inside you. This is not who you are. You know who you are."
–Moana

Moana is a cute, heartfelt, family movie about a young girl's journey. It's definitely a movie to see!

Hope you enjoyed the post and pics! Happy New Year's Eve!

With love,
LaTasha B.
