D-Xirably Counting Down the Days Before Break!

So, let me tell you about the days before my break.

Sunday,
It was mia sorella's (my sister's) Jenny birthday! Hope she had a great one!  I love you! :)

It was also the last night of the musical. I went to see it. The cast did great! Apparently they noticed me being absent... Wasn't expecting that. I got a gift from Susan! It was a star cookie cutter set and a blue star that said, "You are a shining star!" Aww...  My beautiful, sweet, and amazing wifey Shelbi J. got an Irene Ryan nom. and Danny G. got the other. Congrats to them both! :)

My super sweet gift from the lovely Susan! :)

After the musical, I went with my soror Sarah N. and her dad to see Puss in Boots with the sexy Antonio Banderas and beautiful Salma Hayek doing the voice overs. It was such a cute and funny movie! I enjoyed it. Then we went to BK. Sarah N.'s dad treated us which was really nice and totally unexpected. I appreciated that. :)

Isn't little Puss in Boots adorable?

Then, I went to my last DXP chapter EVER! It was kind of sad but not too sad. My soror mom, Lauren's reading for that chapter was EPIC! But I won't have another "official" chapter with my sorors...

Monday,
My DXP mom Lauren and I walked to American Lit. class together. It was so nice! She waited for me so that we could walk together. I appreciate how close we have gotten this semester. It's been incredible! I couldn't have asked for a better soror mom! She got into law school too! Congrats mom! :) We had a quiz in American Lit. but that's nothing new. Surprisingly I got an "A" on my last quiz. That's great to know. I got an "A-" on my discussant assignment. That's cool.

Tuesday,
The highlight of that day was eating lunch with my DXP mom Lauren and Susan at Susan's house. We had some red tea, mexican soup, and promegranate. All of it was really good! It was really nice! We toured Susan's comfortable home and we sat by the fire and talked for a while. It was so peaceful and relaxing...

DXP mom, Lauren, and Susan's cat, Beans, in front of the fireplace!

The worst part is that Lauren and I both had to go back to school and suffer through one more class that day before break. But I got an "A" on my paper from that last class! :)

Went home and then went over to the Godfamily's house. Big sis Ja and I caught up on our shows and talked about what's been going on in our lives lately. A perfect way to start my break! :)

Sincerely,

D-Xiring A Break! Part 2

So, my week continued.

Thursday,
It was the opening night for "Gone Missing". The cast and crew did a wonderful job. It went really well. Before the show, I had dinner with Susan, Aaron, Sarah B., Chris, Tom, and the respondent, Don. It was SO much fun! I had a great time! We went to eat at Avenue's Bistro. I had Tilapia Brava, it was delicious!!!

Friday,
I went to class. Then I helped with STD's book sale for an hour.

After that, I went to see Breaking Dawn Part 1 with the God family. I went with Ja, my Godmother Angie, and Pam. I enjoyed the movie. My God family and I are TEAM JACOB of course! :) Yes, I watch and enjoy the movies (for entertainment purposes and all of the eye candy).

It was my best friend since forever and beautiful big sis, Te, birthday! She came into town and of course, I HAD to hang out with her! We (Te, Mishayla, Te cousin's Juanita, and I) went to Houlihan's and enjoyed a nice dinner with the bday girl! I hope that she had an amazing time! I love you my beautiful big sis! :) My loyalty to her was the reason why I missed the "Gone Missing" performance that night. I am sure that it went well though.

After having busy weeks this entire semester, I am really exhausted and I can't wait for Thanksgiving Break to start on Wednesday. Also, I hope that the break will help me fight my senioritis. I don't need a bad case of senioritis messing me up now. I'm too close to the end, I'm way too close to graduation!

Sincerely,
LaTasha B. aka "The girl that always wear high heels"

D-Xiring A Break! Part 1

So, it was another busy week at RockU. I don't mind busy weeks at all but this week I was really exhausted when it was all done. Plus, senioritis just hit me as well. It would when I am almost done with college too... Oh how I hate you senioritis!

Senioritis according to the Urban Dictionary:
"A crippling disease that strikes seniors. Symptoms include: laziness, an over-excessive wearing of track pants, old athletic shirts, sweatpants, athletic shorts, and sweatshirts. Also features a lack of studying, repeated absences, and a generally dismissive attitude. The only known cure is a phenomenon known as Graduation." (Bolded symptoms are my symptons)

Monday,
It was my sorority mom, Lauren H. birthday! I hope she had a good one despite having to help with "Gone Missing". It was also my big sis Ja's brother's bday.

I helped with STD's (Sigma Tau Delta's) book sale for 2 hours after class.

6-10pm worked on "Gone Missing". This week is tech week. It's when we work like crazy to make sure that the show is perfect for the performance nights.

Tuesday,
We got our quizzes back in class. I got A's on both of them, the Judaist/Jew quiz and the Christian Identity Movement quiz.

I hung out with Paloma until "Gone Missing" rehearsals that night. We worked on it from 6-10pm.

Wednesday,
It was Susan's birthday! I hope she had a great one!

Watched Susan's class learn the "La Bodega" dance from "Gone Missing". It was fun to watch them. Some of them did a really good job with it.

I talked with D'Angela and Modesty which was really nice because I hadn't spoken to little mama D the entire semester and I hadn't spoken to Modesty in a while.

I saw my super cute and adorable little sis Nico as well! I must say that it was the highlight of my entire day! I love seeing my little sis! :) After all, she is like half of my world, the other half is my mom of course! :)

Went back to school for "Gone Missing" rehearsals from 6-10pm

That was the beginning of my week!

D-Xirable Differences Part 3!

So, this is how my week ended.

Friday, Veterans Day (11/11/11),

  • I went to class. Got my quizzes back. A's on both of them.
  • Went to my sorors THV until musical rehearsals.
  • I went to musical rehearsals from 2:30-6pm. They went really well. Beyond Words was also going on during rehearsals but I couldn't go.
  • After musical rehearsals, I met up with my babe Meghan P. I ate with her and then we went to the Men's soccer game. RU won! :) We have an awesome Men's soccer team! They have had an amazing season!
My babe, Meghan P., and I!
  • After the soccer game, I went to my ME day! We had a newspaper fashion show. It was so much fun! My sorors cracked me up! Grace chose the winner and Monica and my DXP mom Lauren won the competition.
Sarah D. in the dress made by Carma R.!

Sarah N. in the dress made by me!

All the ladies in the dresses that the designers created!
My DXP mom, Lauren, is wearing the winning dress and design on the left!

I had a great day!

Saturday,

I had musical rehearsals from 10-1pm. The run through went well. I recommend that anyone who's reading this and can go, should go see the musical! :)

So, why called this week's post "D-Xirable Differences"? Because this week made me realize how much I appreciate and respect people, things, and ideas that are different. I may not agree with some of them but I do like the idea that everyone can be/is different. I enjoy seeing differences, I embrace it. The things that make us different, makes us unique! :)

Well that was my week!

Sincerely,
LaTasha B. aka "The girl that always wear high heels"

Come see the musical this week!
This Thursday and Friday, November 17 and 18, at 8pm!
This Saturday and Sunday, November 19 and 20, at 2pm!
Free for RU students, $5 for other students, and $10 for adults!

D-Xirable Differences Part 2!

So, here's a continuation of my week.

Wednesday,
I went to my class and then I went to Susan's class. I ended up helping with painting the set, I helped by painting a portion of the wall gray. It was fun. We listened to the music from the musical while we helped out for the show. I knew all of the songs, of course! :)

The part of the set that I painted!

At 1:20pm, I had lunch with my lovely soror Sarah D. We had a nice conversation about what was going on in our lives. Actually, she did most of the talking while I just listened but I'm not complaining. I don't mind listening to my friends talk about their interesting lives.

2:30-6pm I had musical rehearsals. They went well.

Thursday,
I had a reading in Race, Religion, and Ethnicity class that made me mad! It was about the Christian Identity movement... Basically they don't like any other race that isn't "white" and anyone that isn't "white" is a child of Satan. I totally disagree with this and I believe that everyone is a child of God and I don't hate any race for that matter.

We had a quiz in my Race, Religion, and Ethnicity class over the Christian Identity movement. Then we got our papers back. I got a 96% A on it.

After classes, I had musical rehearsals until 6pm.

That's some more about my week!

A D-Xirable Date Party and Some D-Xirable Highlights!

So, it was another busy week at RU. Here are some of the highlights:

Having lunch on Wednesday with the beautiful and sweet Paulina C. We talked about how our semester's are going and our classes. It was really nice!

Paulina C. and I at Rockhurst!

Hanging out with the lovely Meghan P. after musical rehearsals Wednesday night. We went to CPK (California's Pizza Kitchen) to eat. It was tons of fun. We talked, ate, and enjoyed each other's company. We also went to see some of the Men's soccer game against William Jewell. It was fun and RU won that game!

Me and Meghan P. at CPK!

Going to the Community Center yesterday morning to help with Safe Trick or Treat. I stuffed small bags with candy. In 2 hrs. and 30 mins I stuffed 200 bags with candy, 2 boxes full. Each of the boxes had 100 bags in it. It was a lot of fun but a lot of work!

80 bags of candy that I stuffed

(2 boxes of candy that I stuffed)

Going to DXP's Date Party with Ja after musical rehearsals on Friday night. DXP had a scavenger hunt on the Plaza and we ended the night with some CPK. Yes, I went to CPK twice this week. It was not planned either, LOL! Despite being separated from Ja during the scavenger hunt, I had a lot of fun doing it with my team. I was on Team 1 with Alexis P., Shelbi J., Sarah D. and her date, and Grace C. Team 2 included Ja, Monica, Carma, Sarah N. and her date, and Grace's boyfriend Dylan. Although we tied on finding the scavenger hunt items, Team 2 won because of their creativity.

Ja and I at the Plaza!

Some of my team - Sarah D. and her date, Shelbi J., and Grace C.!

Me and Shelbi J. at CPK!

Me and Sarah D. at CPK!

Me and Alexis P. at CPK!

My sorority mom, Lauren, and I at CPK!

We went to see Paranormal Activity 3 at Cinemark Plaza after DXP's Date Party. The movie was both funny and a little scary. Ja and I laughed several times during the movie.

Becoming a new member of Sigma Tau Delta (English Honor Society)!

Well those are the highlights of my week and weekend so far, tonight I will be going to WOF (World's of Fun) for HalloWeekends.

    D-Xirably FALLing into Laughter!

So this week was a busy one but what's new? LOL!

    • One: The weather has been very cold. It seems like Mother Nature skipped Fall and went straight to Winter. Not really since there wasn't any snow on the ground but it was chilly this week.
My sorority sis, Sarah D., and my sorority mom, Lauren H., keeping warm in a D-Xirable blanket during Caramel and Candied Apple sales!
    • Two: My sorority, DXP, had Caramel and Candied Apple Sales this week. It went well. Thanks for all of those that supported DXP with the Caramel and Candied Apple Sales! We appreciate it!

    • Three: I started my job as Assistant Director for the musical, Gone Missing. Susan has been really great in allowing me to contribute my thoughts and opinions so far and I really enjoy working with Tom. He's so funny! Also, it was so entertaining and fun watching the cast work on choreography with Chris on Tuesday.

    • Four: I participated in a Focus Group for the Communications Dept. It was really cool! I enjoyed giving my thoughts and opinions. Also, I got to hang out with Mariah B. for a little while. It was nice because we hadn't seen each other that much this semester.
    • Five: Mariah B. and I, along with the Musical Cast and other Focus Group participants, went to the Fine Arts Dept. meet and greet. It was nice. I got to enjoy some yummy pizza while talking and laughing with Mariah B.!
    • Six: I turned in my Sigma Tau Delta (English Honor Society) application and I turned in my Individual Service Project (Computer Skills Tutoring) hours into the Service Center.
    • Seven: I GOT TO LAUGH! I watched Horrible Bosses at my DXP mom and sisters THV. It was so funny! I enjoyed the movie! And today, my sorority mom Lauren and I had the pleasure of watching our sorority sister Monica W. fall out of a hammock while attempting to get into it. LOL! It was so funny! I love you Monica! :)

RockU Solid but Driven D-Xirably Insane! Part 2

Here's part 2 since my week continues to be crazy busy!

    Tuesday,
I ran into Tel (Chantel M.) and Modesty at the computer lab. I run into Tel a lot this year, we always manage to bump into each other at the library. I see Modesty a lot too which I really enjoy! She's so nice and sweet! I just adore her!

    Me and beautiful Modesty!

Since Directing class with Susan was cancelled because she's out of town, I figured I would get to enjoy a break before my Shakespeare class. No, I didn't. I did a brief interview with my sorority mom, Lauren H. for her Journalism class. It was an interview on Quentin S. He's a transfer student at RU and he's a new theater student. It didn't take long at all. What took up my time was trying to sew up my bag strap, it broke... One thing I've learned during my process of being a director, is that active theater students love Mabee Theater. Theater students are always there, even in between our classes. Sometimes, they nap there or study there. It's nice actually.

I went to Shakespeare class. It's the same ol' same ol, all about Shakespeare! LOL!

After class, I had singing auditions from 4-6pm. Now, that was fun. It's always fun to watch singing auditions. Just watch American Idol or X Factor and imagine that you are actually there. And in my case, put yourself into one of the judges' seats. I will admit, some of the new people that auditioned surprised me. Others, well they are active in theater so I already knew what they could do. Tom thought that it would be fun for me to sing though. I don't know why, he's already heard me trying to sing. I auditioned for the ThreePenny Opera a while back ago. Let's just say that I was really nervous and I learned that I wasn't the best singer. So, I was incredibly surprised when he asked me to sing. At first I said no, singing in front of people just isn't my thing. That's why I am the assistant director and not attempting to be one of the singers in this show. But I eventually caved in and did it. Grace Chang and I played around with A Whole New World from Aladdin. Again, I was super nervous and it wasn't the best song to play around with. I didn't know the words like I thought I did and the notes didn't come out right. After that, I decided that I've embarrassed myself more than enough this week. :)

After rehearsals, I went to the hospital with my mom to see a loved one and didn't get home until 9pm. When I got home, I sent Susan an email with the notes that Tom, Grace C., and I had about the singing auditions.

    Wednesday,
What's important is that Susan's finally back! I'm so happy about that too! Now, she will be here for call backs. I had rehearsals right after my class. They did good and I was starting to feel the lack of sleep that I ended rehearsals early. By the way, I live in that building and in the library computer lab, so if you ever need me find me there! While I was working on my paper, Roberto came in and showed me my boxcar for the play. It's awesome! He did an incredible job on it! I love it, it's amazing! I can't wait for everyone to see it! He definitely impressed me with it!

Also, Ericka C. asked me for some advice, director to director. That was cool. It's my first time being a director and I'm already being asked for my opinion as a director. I like it. She asked me how much of the stage directions should she read. I told her to only read what was important to the plot and to the story line if the actors' aren't acting them out.

At 11am, I went to our production meeting. It's hard for me to get down the steps because my ankle is killing me. I have no idea why it's hurting me though. Sarah B. quickly noticed it when she saw me. She hurt her wrist on Wednesday and so she's like what's going on with our production team. It's crazy!

I learned that my play takes place in Afghanistan during our first invasion in that country under the first Bush. That was nice to know! Especially since there was the notion that it took place during the Vietnam War. I never got that feeling when I read it though. It seemed like it didn't take place too long ago, so I was happy to know that I was right and to know exactly when and where my play took place.

At 12pm, I had rehearsals. The guys have their lines pretty much memorized which I really enjoy and appreciate! I love watching and working with the guys! Roberto Perez came to rehearsals again which was awesome! I appreciated it! He helps me with the military stuff since he was a Marine. (In case, I didn't tell you that earlier)

Danny G. and I after a Booby Trap rehearsal

After rehearsals, Brian T. interviewed me about Roberto P. It's for his journalism class. Actually, Lauren and him both have that class together.

I went to call backs. My little PIC (Partner In Crime) Grace C. comes in late. I needed her there to talk to while call backs were going on. Plus, I really miss the audition part and being an actor in the play... Being a director and now assistant director behind the scenes doesn't allow me to be out in front anymore... I just miss becoming a character. Now, I'm just me helping the actors' become their characters. It's just different. At 5, call backs are practically over. I leave during the process of choosing the cast. I felt like I did my part with the notes and that it was time for me to go home.

At 6:32pm, I somehow manage to find myself back at the hospital with my mom. By the way, I'm visiting a loved one at the hospital when I say this just to clarify. We stayed at the hospital until 8pm.

I finally get home at 8:40pm. I can finally eat and go to sleep.

    Thursday,
I woke up at 8am. I sent out FB invites for people to come and see A Night of One Acts (the plays that Lauren H. and I are directing) on Oct. 6-7 at 8pm and Oct. 8-9 at 2pm. That's the first time I ever sent out invites via FB. I really don't like to do it because I hate it when I am sent tons of invites. It's annoying sometimes. After that I got dressed and headed to school.

I went to the computer lab in Sedgwick. (I kind of live in Sedgwick! All of my classes are in Sedgwick and I do tons of theater stuff in Mabee Theater, which is located in Sedgwick.) I ran into Modesty. We talked for a little while as we both worked on the computer.

11am I went to my Theology class. We got our papers back. I did okay on it but I need to do better on it next time. I have to get an A in this class in order to get into TAK (Theta Alpha Kappa - The Religious Studies honor society).

I ran into beautiful Paulina C. right before class. I told her that we need to have lunch together and she agreed. I will be working on that!

I had rehearsals right after class. I had a no show which surprised me. So, I ended up talking with the person that did show for and while and then canceled rehearsals to look at the "toys" that we got for my show. When I say "toys", I mean prop guns. They look awesome by the way! I have two pistols for my show and two rifles! It's so cool! I even had to play around with them for a while. By the way, they don't work that's why they are called prop guns. We also got the jungle green digi (digital) camouflage uniforms and they look incredible as well! I'm now getting really excited for my play! It's starting to look and feel authentic!

After I played with the "toys" and looked at the uniforms, I went to the bank with my mom. I had to cash my refund check and to pay some bills off. When I say bills, I mean credit card bills. LOL! I'm a girl that likes to shop so of course I have a credit card! Two, actually! :)

I got home around 7pm and crashed.

Well, that's my week so far. The weekend (Friday-Sunday) deserves a post of it's own since it's the weekend of the homecoming dance and full run-thru rehearsals! :)
